We saw a problem that had been accepted as normal for too long. We decided to fix it.
Walk through any government agency or large organisation in Papua New Guinea on payslip day and you will see the same scene: HR officers hunched over printers, stacking hundreds of pages, sorting them by department, and physically walking them to desks, notice boards, or internal mail trays. It takes days. Payslips get lost, mixed up, or left uncollected. Sensitive salary information passes through many hands before it ever reaches the right employee.
We are a team of Papua New Guinean technology professionals, and we had each witnessed this first-hand across government departments, statutory bodies, and large private-sector employers. The inefficiency was accepted as simply the way things are done here. We disagreed.
In 2024, we came together with a shared conviction: PNG organisations deserve modern, digital infrastructure that works for their scale and context — not retrofitted tools designed for markets with different realities. Honpain Technologies was founded to build exactly that.
Across our professional careers in technology, enterprise systems, and product development, each of us had encountered the same friction point: payroll departments doing skilled administrative work with physical paper instead of software. The cost — in time, errors, and risk — was invisible on balance sheets but enormous in practice. We mapped the problem and realised no existing solution was built for the PNG context: local pay cycles, government payroll systems, unreliable internet, and organisations ranging from 50 to thousands of employees.
We did not want to build a generic tool. We wanted to build the tool that a PNG HR officer would actually use. That meant supporting bulk PDF uploads from any payroll system, matching employees automatically without manual setup, sending password-protected payslips directly to employee inboxes, and providing full audit trails that government bodies could rely on for compliance. Every feature was designed around a workflow we had seen with our own eyes.
In 2025, Our Co-Founders formally incorporated Honpain Technologies and began building. Our combined backgrounds span software engineering, systems architecture, and enterprise product management — all applied to a product purpose-built for PNG. We are at the start of our journey, but we are building with the discipline, security, and scalability that the public sector requires from day one.
Our founding team brings together deep expertise in software engineering, cloud infrastructure, and enterprise product design. We are not a foreign company entering the PNG market with a generic solution — we are a local team that understands the constraints, the opportunities, and the people we are building for.
We believe the public sector deserves the same quality of technology that large private corporations take for granted. Honpain Technologies exists to close that gap, one organisation at a time.
Payroll data is among the most sensitive information an organisation holds. We treat it that way — AES-256 encryption, role-based access, audit trails, and secure email delivery are non-negotiable in everything we build.
We design for the realities of PNG — local pay cycles, government payroll systems, bandwidth constraints, and organisations ranging from small agencies to large government departments. This is not a generic tool adapted for PNG; it is built for PNG.
We are a startup and we move fast. We listen closely to the organisations we work with, ship improvements regularly, and hold ourselves to the same standard of accountability that we ask of our customers.
We are actively onboarding early organisations. Join us at the beginning and help shape the product.
